Update November 2013

Apologies for the recent absence of match reports and updates but there has been a lot going on, such as:

1. The SFA Equity Team have been working with us to improve and encourage better participation from those children and parents who are recognised as being part of an under-represented group. This has been successful with 6 new players attending training and match days. We look to encourage more players and their parents to consider joining us in developing lifelong healthy skills and fun.

2. We have been working with BEMIS to develop a strategy to help under-represented groups within St Angela’s to recognise football and sport as an essential aspect of a healthy and inclusive lifelong approach.

3. We applied for funding to purchase additional equipment to enable us to provide after school training opportunities for children attending St Angela’s in school years P2, P3 & P4 at no cost. This has been successful with £1,700 recently awarded.

4. We have been arranging the fit out of the school team football container kindly gifted by St Louise Parish and Fr. Hill. This has now taken place which will help us to better store existing and future equipment.

5. We have been recruiting new volunteers and arranging their own coaching journey and development. Thanks to the support from the SFA Equity Group, some volunteers are about to undertake their first coaching badge beginning of December 2013.

On Saturday 23 November 2013, the School Football Team travelled to Our Lady of the Rosary PS (OLR) to play a league game. Unfortunately due to the weather the referee deemed the pitch unplayable. We then agreed with the match referee and OLR coaches to play the game at St Angela’s on the same day.

Our other team players who did not travel to the game were training with Nicola (our new coach) for approximately 45 minutes when we returned to St Angela’s. The other players then trained outside the MUGA and cheered on their team mates during the match. Everyone created a great atmosphere which inspired the team to an impressive 4-1 victory.

All the players put in team shifts with notable displays by Humza, Reece, Kieron, Harris, Declan, Armaan, Shayaan, Lewis, Christopher, Adam, Jamie, Jordan, Pearse & Josh – yes in fact the starting 11 and substitutes. The game was decided by great goals from Adam, Kieron (2) and Reece. They were all truly exceptional goals with good build up and individual play.

We have since heard the result was reaching homes before players, coaches and parents returned. All the players are buzzing and enjoy playing and training within the school set up.

If you are interested in joining the school team as a player or as a parent/guardian volunteer please get in touch with myself:
